Blogging Slump

Hey guys, how are you all doing? Lately I've been feeling like I am in a bit of a slump, blogging wise. I have been working 35+ hours five days a week now, and I feel like my blog is suffering, specifically, blog reading and social media promotion. I hate that this is happening. I love my little blog so much, and I haven't been able to look after it and put all of the love I have for it lately. As result, I have noticed a downturn in page views and in comments. I am going to do my best and keep up on my blog reading and interaction there, day by day, so it won't build up. I really miss interacting with the bloggers and sharing my opinion there. I have started joining in more on the Twitter chats and I especially love the Irish Beauty Hour on Twitter on Thursdays from 10pm to 11pm, and I love chatting to other bloggers and general beauty enthusiasts. Perhaps I'm not visible enough on social media? With the amount of bloggers, it's very easy to be overseen amongst bigger, better and bloggers who can churn out a post a day.

I am still blogging twice a week which is my usual, so thankfully, the blog isn't being neglected by any means. Because of the lack of response off some posts, it has led me to feel quite meh and unmotivated with blogging. Though I've never lost the love for blogging, interacting with like minded people, writing, taking photos, hitting publish, is still as fantastic to me when I started blogging. To you other bloggers out there, is there anything I'm missing? How can I get out of this slump and increase my interaction with other bloggers? I am a very introverted person, and I sometimes worry I may be annoying someone, is there any ways that are more effective than others to talk to other bloggers and readers? Anything I'm missing? To my readers, is there anything you would like to see more (or less of) on my blog?

To hopefully get myself out of this slump, I have decided to shake up my blog, and try and expand beyond beauty and make-up reviews. Lipstick and Lightening was originally just supposed to be about beauty and make-up, but I want to talk about some of my other interests also. I have a few ideas. It could be hit and miss with some, but it gives me extra excitement and motivation regrading my blog! Some of my ideas include the odd Serial Killer Saturday post (You were warned in previous posts of my interest in serial killers!), Music/Movie Monday, Instagram Inspiration, and budget beauty brands focus posts. They are just a few of the ideas I have! I hope I can get my blog and promotion back in full force soon.

I am excited about the future of Lipstick and Lightening, and I hope you will stick around and keep reading. I love everyone who takes the few minutes to read my blog. It truly means the world to me.
Thank you for reading.

Say Yes To Love!

Hey everyone, Happy Saturday! If you're living in Ireland, you are, no doubt, very aware of the referendum coming up regarding same sex marriage. The upcoming referendum will allow marriage for everyone, regardless of gender and sexual orientation. Voters will be asked whether or not ''marriage may be contracted in accordance with law by two persons without distinctions as to their sex'' should be added to the Irish Constitution. This addition to the Constitution does not in the slightest way, change our idea of marriage between a man and a woman as we know it to be, it would also mean that married couples of the opposite and same sex will be recognised as a family and are entitled to constitutional protection.
This vote is very close to my heart, and I know without a shadow of a doubt, that I'm not alone when I say that. One of my best friends since I was 12 is getting married to her girlfriend next March, I have friends and family who are gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender. I have friends who choose to not put themselves into any box at all. They are beautiful people and I love them so much, but it breaks my heart that they are not currently treated equally in the eyes of the law, and they can't marry the person they love, should they choose to marry in the future.
The current poll prediction according to The Irish Times (27th March 2015) is 74% Yes to 26% No. This is so promising that this referendum will pass, and by a landslide! It's so exciting, but for the same percentage (or even higher) for the Yes side, it's not enough that we not only support the Yes side, but that we get out on May 22nd and VOTE! I'm also so happy to say that myself, and loads of people I've talked to about the referendum, and articles that I have read, there is overwhelming support for the Yes vote! Even amongst the older generation, there is positive and wonderful support. I have yet to talk or anyone or know anyone that is voting No. The Yes vote also has the support of the government and the major political parties.
To legalise same sex marriage the the big sensible leap forward for Ireland, especially considering that homosexuality was only decriminalised in 1993. This is the single most important thing we will ever vote for! It will bring Ireland out of the Dark Ages somewhat, and in to the 21st Century.
How can you make sure you are eligible to vote in the same sex marriage? You must be an Irish citizen and be over 18 and you must be on the Register of Electors. If you're not on the register, fill out this form and bring it in to your local council. If any of your details have changed, you have to fill in this form and send it in to your local council.

I see no reason why in 2015, that same sex couples cannot get married. Also this referendum has nothing to do with children, fostering or adoption, so don't believe anything that comes from the Mothers and Fathers Matter campaign, or the smear campaign against the Yes vote. We all have the right to love and express that love through marriage. Of course, we live in a democratic society where you reserve the right to vote No if you so choose. However, same sex couples getting married does not in any way affect your right to a heterosexual marriage. Voting no won't affect opposite sex marriage, but you are voting against the right for same sex couples to marry. It's simple, if you don't want a same sex marriage don't have one. Love is love, so say Yes to love!
I'm voting Yes because I can't wait for my best friend to get married. I'm voting Yes because I love my LGBT friends and family. I'm voting yes because marrying the person you love, is not a privilege, but a right. I'm voting Yes because it will bring Ireland into the future. I am above all else, voting Yes, because I love love.
What kind of an outcome do you hope for after the May 22nd election? Let me know below!

Bourjois Rouge Edition lipstick

Hey everyone! How are you all? Happy Tuesday! Today, I am reviewing Bourjois Rouge Edition lipstick. Many things will change in life, but one thing will never change: I will never have enough lipstick! This lovely lipstick is the newest edition to my collection! I have wanted to try this lipstick for a while, but I was unsure of what colour to pick up, so I finally settled on Fraise Remix.

It is a stunning bright orange coral shade that I am always drawn to, very summery. Such an amazing shade! The packaging is quite pretty, the base shows the shade and the case is black plastic (who could go wrong with black?) The texture of this lipstick is so lovely and creamy, it feels so soft, lightweight and really comfortable on the lips. The pigmentation of the Rouge Edition lipstick is brilliant, it definitely is a stand out shade, and the pigmentation really helps it stand out. It's not a drying lipstick at all, either, which is a huge bonus for me because I always have dry, sore lips.

It has a satin shine finish, the perfect in between between a matte and a gloss finish. The staying power is fantastic and I only had to top it up once during a particularly busy day. I can 100% see this being a summer favourite that I'll be reaching for alot! I can't wait to pick up the Rouge Edition lipsticks in other shades in the future! This costs a very reasonable €10.49 and I give it well deserved 10/10/.

Have you tried any of the Bourjois Rouge Edition lipsticks? What did you think of them and what shades did you pick up? Let me know below!

Make-Up Memory Lane

Hey guys! How are you all doing? Happy Friday! A week or two ago, I saw this tag post on Siobhan's blog over at http://agirlandabeautyblog.com/ (Go check her out!) and I thought I was an interesting tag to do and brought up some memories! Feel free to steal this tag if you want to. :)

First make-up item ever purchased?
Wow, I think I was only nine when I first purchased make-up! The first make-up I remember buying is a cheap glitter eyeliner in the pound shop for £2 I'd say! Which I proceeded to apply all over my lid. Ah, memories...

First MAC item?
I actually only popped my MAC cherry last September! I bought Lightscapade and reviewed it here.

First high end make-up splurge?
Honestly, I've never been a big high-end make-up person. I prefer high end skincare. I think it was Benefit though.

First makeover experience?
Oh I remember that really well. I was 15 and I was in Essex. In one of the shopping centres, a sales assistant pulled me aside and tried some different products on me. She made my skin so caked and orange looking, ugh.
First make-up brush?
My 17 kabuki face brush. I still have it, it's really great! Perhaps I shouldn't still have it, now that I think about it...

First eye shadow?
A horrid lime green shadow from Bourjois!

First skincare ''investment?''
I've been buying skincare products since I was thirteen. I think it was some three step cleanser, toner and moisturiser from Avon.

First nail polish owned?
I've never been a big nail polish fan. But it was probably one of those harmless nail polishes that you could easily peel off your nails. I loved peeling it off! I sometimes used to paint my nails with it just to peel it off, haha! #sad

First fake tan attempt?
I actually never liked fake tan, but I was made put it on for weddings and such. The last time I wore it was when I was 15. Embrace the pale!

And that is my trip down Make-Up Memory Lane! Feel free to steal this tag if you want to, and if you do, leave me links below. I really loved this tag and would be interested in reading more!

Clarins Creme Eclat Du Jour

What's up homeslices? How are you all doing on this fabulous Monday? -ugh-. Today, I will be reviewing Clarins Creme Eclat Du Jour Daily Energising Cream! As you might know, Clarins is my all time favourite high end skincare brands, but I have never tried any of their moisturisers, and I really wanted to. I recently got a new job, so I thought it would be the perfect excuse to treat myself to one. I wanted a moisturiser to hydrate my skin without making it oily, add radiance to my skin and a moisturiser to make a visible difference. So, this moisturiser seemed like the perfect one to pick up!

The Eclat Du Jour moisturiser promises to deliver ideal hydration with a matte finish, it is non oily and to make a great make-up base. It also promises to refresh skin and balance out moisture all day long and enhance the skin's radiance. In particular, Eclat Du Jour is recommended for women in their 20's with combination to oily skin. The star ingredients in this moisturiser are Vitamin C, Alchemilla and Turmeric extracts to energise skin and to help improve any minor imperfections. Ginkgo Biloba to boost micro-circulation and enhance skin's radiance. It is a cream gel formula, so the texture feels so light but luxurious, and feels like this when you apply it to your face.
I use this every morning and night after applying toner in an upwards, circular motion.

I have to say, when I bought this, I took its claims of being an excellent make-up base with a pinch of salt, but after trying it as a base, I don't need to use a primer underneath foundation! It made my make-up look better, it went on smoother and my make-up lasted the entire day! Overall, the Eclat Du Jour is a fantastic daily moisturiser. it made my skin more radiant, hydrated, soft with a lovely matte finish. It keeps any oil at bay all day. My skin felt smoother and energised. I adored its luxuriousness. However, I would have seen adding some SPF to it as a big bonus.
The packaging was on par to the high end skincare (and price) that you would expect. Eclat Du Jour came in a sturdy and heavy, orange frosted glass jar with a screw lid, which makes it one of the lookers in my skincare drawer. I love the smell so much! It has a lovely subtle peach scent to it. I really feel however, considering the price, Clarins could have been a tad less stingy and it could have been a bigger jar. It is 30ml, and I would have been happier if it was 40-50ml.

The Clarins Creme Eclat Du Jour Daily Energising Cream costs €25 for 30ml, and I loved it! I give it a 9/10 and I definitely would repurchase this.
Have you guys tried Eclat Du Jour yet? What is your favourite high end skincare brand? Let me know below!

Max Factor Creme Puff Blush

Hey guys! How are you all doing? Did you all have a fantastic Easter? I know I did! Today, I'll be reviewing Max Factor's Creme Puff blush. I have heard so much about these blushes being dupes for the Ambient Lightning blushes. Due to their baked and marbled effect, I can see why. However, I haven't tried the Ambient Lightning blushes, so I can't really compare the two, so I'll just review it on its own merits.

I was bored of my current Bourjois blush, and I was looking for a new blush to try out, and I am sucker for pretty things, and I heard so much about these blushes, that I had to try them out! These blushes come in a variety of six shades, so you're bound to find one to suit your skin tone. I have very fair skin, so I picked up this blush in Lovely Pink. I think the shade Lovely Pink suits pale skin down to the ground, it is a very light pink with gold running through it. It leaves a shimmer satin finish and it is a very subtle, light blush but it can be built up if you want a more noticeable flush of colour.

Something I really love about this blush is that it also highlights! The gold in this blush leaves a lovely golden highlight on my cheeks, and gives a healthy complexion. It lasts from morning to night time on the skin, and looks beautiful in any light! I love the pretty packaging, it's compact, small and sleek, which is perfect to fit in an overnight make-up bag.
The Max Factor Creme Puff Blushes costs €11.49, which I think is so worth it, considering how long you can get out of a blush. I give it a well earned 10/10 and I would absolutely buy it again!
Have you tried the Max Factor Creme Puff blushes yet? What did you think? Let me know below!

Make-Up Revolution Iconic 3 palette

Hey hey hey Guys and Dolls! Are you all preparing yourselves for the Day of Choc on Sunday? I know I am! :D Today, I am reviewing the Iconic 3 eyeshadow palette for you guys. On the blogger scene, the absolute buzz around Make-Up Revolution, and in particular, their Iconic palettes! I was dying to try one, and picked up Iconic 3, because I adored the shades and I wanted to play around with rose gold eyeshadow a bit and see if it suited me. It's been a popular dupe for the Naked 3 palette, a palette for less than €6 for a palette that costs almost €50? I was definitely curious!

As the palette was so cheap, I was hoping to Tim Burton that this palette wasn't chalky and cheap feeling, like so many budget eyeshadow palettes can be. The packaging is pretty typical, sleek and black. The shades are very, very similar to the Naked 3 palettes, and range from coppers, to bronzes, to beautiful rose golds. I really like the texture of these shadows, they are soft, and not chalky whatsoever! Compared to alot of palettes out there, the shadow sizes are very generous, which is amazing, again for the price you pay. The finishes range from pearl, to shimmer, to matte so it's a versatile palette, which can transition from day to night. They are long wearing shadows, lasting through to morning to night. The colour payoff is fantastic! There isn't much fallout with this palette and the shades are easily blended.

So is it a dupe for the Naked Palette 3? Yes and no! At this price, it will be the best dupe for the third Naked Palette you can possibly get your hands on. The shades are very similar and great if you want to experiment with the shades, before shelling out for Naked 3. Yes, the texture isn't as buttery and luxurious, but it is still an amazing palette at an even better price!

The Make-Up Revolution Iconic 3 palette costs €5.64, which is so, so worth it! I give it a well earned 9/10, and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone wanting to play around with the rose gold hues.
Have you any of the Iconic palettes from Make-Up Revolution? What did you think of them? Let me know below!
